What type of plant is this? I believe its a palm tree of some sort.

Hello there;

This is a Chamaedorea (bamboo palm). several different varieties, some are dwarf plants so it may be that yours won't get much taller. When grown as houseplants generally need relatively low light. I think your pot may be too big for the plant so I would repot it in a smaller pot with good drainage, new soil and fertiize it with some sort of ordinary houseplant fertilzer like miracle grow. even if it is a dwarf variety, your plant should be bushier and heallthier with this treatment I think.
