Hi ,I have just been given a gift of a 3 foot palm plant which I think may be a chamaedorea elegans would I be able to grow this on my roof terrece in southern Spain ? as it is very large for indoors

What a lovely gift! I'm thinking you are hardiness zone 10.

If so, it should be able to grow outdoors for you as it's hardy to zone 9b.

Hi Newt ,thanks for the sites yes we are zone 10 and I have measured my plant and it,s a wonderful 4ft tall and looks grand on the terrace

Palm trees are so neat, I was recently in Orlando, FL and saw an Old Man Palm (not sure what the Scientific name is). It was the coolest Palm I have ever seen. The trunk was covered with hair....wild!

Coccothrinax crinita aka Old Man Palm is from Cuba. Neat plant. Here's some pics at different ages.
