I planted my Frat bulbs out in containers a couple of months ago and I'm wondering now how long I might have to wait before I start to see them growing. It's the first time with Frats for me. Should I wait until spring before I see any above ground action and are the pots ok outside for a british winter?

Hi Dave,

I'm thinking you mean Fritillaria bulbs.  These are hardy bulbs and need a chill period before they'll bloom.  I suspect you won't see any growth until spring.  You can leave them outdoors for the winter as long as the pots are large enough not to freeze and thaw.  You could even leave them in an unheated garage or shed, watered and covered with a couple of layers of newspaper.   Put them outdoors in the light the beginning of March.
