I was able to dig up some young bamboo plants on the floor of a bamboo forest (someones backyard that had oodles of 30-40' bamboo stalks).
How long will it take for this chunk to start growing upwards? and how high/fast will it grow? I wanted to put it in a planter box first, until I could find block off a section of my yard to contain it in.

Well, I put the pieces I had into a flower box, topped with mulch and watered...

Now, I'm hoping for the best....

Good luck.* I wouldn't have a courage to plant bamboo in my yard, ESPECIALLY an unknown variety!* I've seen and read too many horror stories.
