potboundThe condition of a houseplant or outdoor container plant which has been left in the same pot or container for too long a period of time and the roots fill every niche of the pot or container. A hook or blade is required to cut through and separate the tangled matted outer roots when removed from the pot and before placing in the new container or the plant may never recover from this disastrous condition.
