root bound herbs

: Many house plants actually do better (look sturdier, are bushier and look more attractive) if the pots they are in are a bit too small.  What if I do the same with indoor herbs?  Will the aggressive plants stay smaller?  Will the tall, lanky ones be shorter and bushier?  (please send e-mail directly to me since I usually forget to go back to the various message boards)  Are there certain plants that can take this treatment and some that absolutely can't? Thanks for the info.
