: 2 weeks ago I planted basil in a pot outside. It hasn't been looking too good and today I brought it inside are there are lots of brown bugs in the soil. They look a little like silverfish only brown. They must be eating the basil. What should I do? Well, are they eating the basil? any leaves chewed up? nip 'em off,if so. perhaps they are just some sort of soil insect. flush'em out with a good soaking,or two. it's unusual for basil to have any problems. give it full sun, and bake the wee beasties, that'll teach 'em. insecticidal soap will kill just about any soft-bodied insect, by dehydration. homebrews of garlic and hot chilis will take care of any insects that are chewers, not aphids(they, suck, in more ways than one) good luck. make your first pesto and serve it over shrimp and pasta, you'll love it. enjoy p.s. don't get overly concerned about bugs and stuff, sometimes they're just there and really don't pose a problem. most insects are benign or actually beneficial. keep an eye on the basil, if you feel you're getting a bit too T&N, chuck it, and buy a new one. life's too short to sweat the small stuff.
