I'm finding conflicting information. Some sites say they thrive on neglect and others say to fertilize. From my personal knowledge of vines (not this one though), vines seem to do better if they only get compost as a topdressing or mixed in the planting bed. Most of the sites that I found that recommend fertilizing were about the plant in a pot.

I did a search at www.google.com and put in quotes and used a plus sign like this: "how to grow" + "bougainvillea" and got 113 hits.
