Rabbits and how to keep them at bay

: I need to hear how others deal with rabbits - ever since my neighborhood gave up his tomato garden, rabbits have devasted our hosta and the only solution to it that I have been told is to sprinkle pepper on the hosta leaves.  We have 2+ acreas of hosta so that won't work at all.
