We have had a corn plant for 20 years. It has moved with us three times. Its name is Cecil. Cecil has been a good plant but very slow growing. Each new top leaf has been at the price of a dried up bottom leaf. Cecil has two stalks. About three weeks ago both stalks sprouted a "growth", a slender stem with what look like brocolli floretts accompanied by small leaves. Is this the "flower" There is no fragrance but the new stem growth secrets sticky droplets. I called the county agent and was told by the master gardener that corn plants do not bloom indoors. Is this a new plant growing and should be cut it off and plant it? If yes, how do we do that? We would hate to lose Cecil but we don't know what he is doing and how to care for this new growth. Please help us.
