rubber tree losing leaves

I received a beautiful rubber plant approx 2.5 feet tall at my
mother in law's funeral recently. I am trying very hard to keep the plant
healthy being that it was given to us by a close friend.

At any rate, it is losing leaves like mad ever since I brought it home.
The leaves that fall off look healthy and the plant looks
healthy from my point of view... but I know nothing about plants!

I haven't watered it too much and when I do I use distilled.

HELP? Any suggestions?
