Like JM's problem, I too have had 3 stalks of "lucky bamboo" (from Ikea) for about 6 months. The store "specialist" told me they must be kept in a vase with smooth rocks and no soil, just water. He said soil is too rich in nutrients and will kill the bamboo. So now the leaves/sprouts are yellowing and I don't know what to do with it. I think I will try planting one stalk in soil and see what happens. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to save them? It's the stigma as much as anything... how lucky is someone when their "lucky" bamboo croaks, LOL! :P
