china dolls do not do well indoors, regardless of what they're sold for. i have my china doll outdoors in a very sheltered porch, but i live near san francisco where the weather rarely goes to freezing. it is over 7 feet tall and in a 10 gallon pot. severe pruning is recommended every couple of years. when this plant was indoors, it nearly succumbed to mealy bugs and spider mites. i cleaned the leaves every other day until they were gone and it's been outside ever since...at least 10 years. these are very picky plants, but your problem would be solved by pruning. trust me, it will grow back from the stump and be beautiful.
