I found out that this is indeed a corn plant or a Dracaena fragrans. The smell is stronger in the evening. After the flowers are cut off a new head or crown of leaves will grow. It is likley that more than one head will grow giving you a branched specimen. I don't really know what this means or what to expect, but I am excited about it.
