I have a houseplant that is slowly turning black and dying. The blackness doesn't look like a fungus (although it could be). It just looks like a black shadow is moving down one branch and up the next, killing and dropping off leaves as it goes. I tried to get rid of it when it was only on one branch by cutting off the branch below the black part, but the blackness appeared on the cut part of the branch and just kept moving. It is like gangrene on a houseplant. I don't know what kind of plant it is either. It has long branches and green leaves that sprout off of a green stem in a circle (about 6-8 leaves per stem). Is it doomed? Should I get it out before it kills my other plants? I would like to be able to save it if at possible.
