: I have a Philodendron and a crotron(codiaeum) growing in a pot in my dorm room. I have recently noticed lots of small, white, worm looking, bugs in my soil. Does anyone know what they might be or if they are harmful to the plants? The plants are doing really well right now and have no symptons of any diseases. I am just concerened about later on...How do I or should I get rid of them?

Hi Natalie,

It is possible that they are springtails? Here's a site that might help.

Another possiblilty could be potworms (one word). Here's a site to take a look.

To get rid of them I would try removing all the soil from the plants, washing the pots in a solution of one part bleach to nine parts water and washing the roots in a mild soap solution. Repot in fresh potting soil.

Good luck,
Newt
