rubber plant needs help

Greetings wonderful plant people,

I have a rubber plant that doesn't seem to be doing so well, and I'm not such a green thumb.

One issue is that it has gotten so big that it's leaning heavily to one side. It seems like it needs pruning, but I don't know how to do this and don't want to hurt it.

The other issue is that on the end of some of the branches, what used to be the beginnings of new leaves has grown crusty with a white kind of crusty stuff around it. Don't know if it's some kind of fungus?
