Black spots on leaves

: I have a Yucca Cane plant that is indoors.  I have had it about 1 yr.  In the past few months I have noticed black spots on the leaves.  These spots are becoming more and more.  I was wondering what was wrong with it.  I Think it may have something to do with the watering.  I was watering it about every month or so but someone told me that it was not often enough.  For the past month I have been watering it about every week.  If it is watering to much, will it dry out and be okay or do I need to transplant it?  Just reasure me that it won't die.  If need be I can take picture of the spot and send them to you to see what I am talking about.  Please someone help me.  Thanks
