Valentine's houseplant

: My husband very seetly gave me a nice houseplant for Valentine's day. The problem is he purchased it at a Grocery store and we have no idea what kind it is. I need help! It looks tropical to me, the leaves are waxey, dark green on the tops and an eggplant color on the lower part of the leaf. I will admit now that I am not very good with plants. Please help!
