moved umbrella plant, need Help

I recently took a friends umbrella plant from a small apt. to my sunny,light house. main stem was pruned befor the move, leaves are falling off, 1st curling
then dropping entire "umbrella" at a time. was instructed to take good care of this, Any pointers.
