Our mother sang this to us when we were small. This is the way I remember it:
Bill Grogan's goat, so big and fine,
ate three red shirts, right off the line.
He took this goat, right by the neck,
and tied it to a railroad track.
The whistle blew, the train drew near,
this goat turned red and green with fear.
He breathed a sigh, as if in pain,
coughed up the shirts, and flagged the train.
