: : My daughter has been singing the following version
: : of the song for 23 years, after learning it in grade
: : school:

: : There was a man now please take note
: : There was a man who had a goat
: : He loved that goat, indeed he did
: : He loved that goat just like a kid
: : One day that goat, felt frisk & fine
: : Ate three red shirts from off the line
: : The man, he grabbed him by the back
: : And tied him to the railroad track
: : And when the train drove into sight
: : That goat grew pale and green with fright
: : He heaved a sigh as if in pain
: : Coughed up the shirts & flagged the train
: : And flagged the train!

:
: It has been 25 years but I still remember some of it.

: Bill Grogan's goat, was feelin' fine
: ate three red shirts from off the line
: Bill took a switch, gave him a swack
: coughed up the shrits....

: and I can't remember the rest.

Our version from camp sounds sort of like it:
Bill Grogan's goat wasn't feeling fine
Ate 3 red shirts right off the line
Bill took a stick, gave him a whack,
And tied him to the railroad track.
The whistle blew, the train grew nigh.
Bill Grogan's goat was doomed to die.
He gave three groans, three groans of pain
Coughed up the shirts and flagged the train!
