My name is Kait and I went to camp Loowit every year I could in the 1960's. Some of the people I remember are: Joretta Briney and her boys, Ken White, Bill Lenning and family, Cindy Smith, Beth Weber, Irene and Catherine DeHaas, Shelly Field, Holly Peru, Betty Caldwell, Laura Noteboom, Kay Dundus and Kay Sheridan, Betsy Borgavink, Deanna Dawson, Mary Ledford, Karen and Robin Johnson, Pat and Sue Rice, Sue and Sally Martin, Chris Burhart, Chris Peterson, Penny Dimick, Paul Starr, Tom Jabusch, Jane Dedrick, Kathy Hanson, Colleen and Julie Donahue, Becky and Ben Norton, and Sarah Magnuson to name a few. I remember the camp reunions every Christmas break, the blue sweatshirts with the camp logo, making lanyards, selling peanuts, the camp signup sheets at the Y, the bus ride up, singing "We're Here Because We're Here" when we arrived, hiking around to camp, Joretta's fried chicken, camp themes, Swimming the lake, the ragger's ceremony. chapel, campfires, the Ghost, the Ape and the barge, The big triangle, the bell, flag raising, capture the counselor, the telescope, stumps to sit on, getting thrown in the lake for getting too much mail, care packages, 95% of the camp songs, singing after meals, singing grace, canoes and rowboats how cold the lake was, and of course very personal memories like the time we had a fire in one of the buildings, or the year a lot of us got the flu (nothing more fun then throwing up in a sleeping bag), interactions with campers and counselors, and crying when I got home because I wanted to go back.
I have reunited with my favorite counselor, attended the camp reunion, and would go to camp as an adult in a heartbeat. (Anyone know of one a 50 year old woman can attend?) I miss camp so much and it was the best part of my childhood, hands down. Kait
