My gran, born in 1920 in York, used to sing this to me: the words were slightly different:

The king's horses, the king's men
Marched up the hill and they marched down again
The king's horses and the king's men.
They're not out to fight the foe, you might think so
But oh dear, no!
They're out because they're going to go
To put a little pep into the Lord Mayor's show.
Some in scarlet, some in gold,
All dollied up, they're a sight to behold!
The king's horses and the king's men!
