:Camp Meehan was the Portland Y Camp around the corner in the cove from the Longview Y Camp Loowit. They were not the same camp but both had a long history on the shores of spirit Lake
When I attended the camp in the summers of 1953 and 1955 it was called Camp Meehan. The director in the summer of 1955 was named Taylor (no relation to me). The songs invariably sung around the campfire before heading off to our cabins were Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, and Abide With Me. The succession of Raggers was Blue, Brown, Red, and White (no stars). Some of the older boys once did a spoof in which the Black Ragger was awarded, with the oath "I promise on my honor to do my best, to help myself and cheat the rest." Ah, those were the days.
