what is "sharry baby"/sweet fragrance?

: I was given a gift orchid with a 30" high spike of small marroon and purplish flowers on June 2nd.  In one month I have succeeded in nearly killing the poor thing.  I had it on the mantle  (warm shade)and all the flowers have been shedding.  One of its several clusters of new leaves was soggy and I pulled it off.  I took the plant down and found it was sitting in a pool of water in its wooden dish.  What should I do besides let it drain?  Feed it?  Prune it? Give it more sun?  And what type of orchid is this anyway?  Any and all help would be appreciated.
