From what I understand it is not as simple as collecting the seeds from the pod that develops and putting it in soil and waiting for growth. First of all it takes a fairly long period of time for an orchid to germinate and develope into a blooming plant, the time varies from variety to the next but I do know, for example, for the native endangered lady slippers here in New Hampshire that can take seven years for it to reach a blooming stage. Also, for the orchids that grow in soil (I am unsure about the epiphytic species) there has to be a particular fungus in the soil that actually helps the orchid to grow. Good Luck!
