You can cut off the old stem OR you can leave it. Sometimes the old stem will form new flower buds or a Keiki, that is a baby phal. IF that happens wait until the babies roots are an inch long then cut it off and pot it up. The "wormy looking green sprouts" sound like arial roots. The tips are green right? These are one of my favorite things about phals! VERY interesting to watch grow. Let them roam free...Tom
