Dendrobium with "babies"?

I was given a dendrobium orchid about three months ago. It has a stem full of blooms, but one by one they fell off. Then one by one the leaves started turning yellow and falling off. I moved it out of bright light (it was getting the same light as my african violets- which are thriving!) and cut back to watering it every other week. I thought it was just going to completely die on me slowly, but when I looked at it a few days ago, I saw two little sprouts coming out of it's base! They are healthy looking. Is this normal? What do I do now to prevent them from dying? Thanks!
