: Hello all.  I just recently got into orchids.  In the last 4 months my collection went from one to 13.  I perhaps got a little over zealous, due to the fact that I do not have a lot of room.  I live in San Francisco, and I have them all in a South facing room with large windows.  The room itself is very bright but none of the orchids ever get direct sun.   Temperatures range from about 70-80 during the day, and 60-70 during the night.  I have no idea what the humidity is like.  The orchids I have are, an Papheopedilum, oncidium, miltonia x odontoglossum, odontoglossum, epidendrum, dendrobium, vanilla grandiflora, brassia, masedavalia, phalanopsis. 

: One of the questions I have are about placement in the room.   The whole room is pretty bright, but there are a couple spots that are a bit brighter.  Which orchids at what time would benifit most from the additional brightness?  is it better to have a blooming orchid in the increased brightness or budding or ?    

: Also after about 2-2.5 months my miltonia x odontoglossum flowers are wilting and turning brown, is this the normal way that the bloom cycle ends?  and should I cut the brown blooms off?  also when all the blooms are gone should I cut the spike all the back?

: I bought my dendrobium in bud (yesterday), is there a way without looking at the blooms to tell which type it is?

: Wow,sorry for the novel there.  I never would have thought I could get into plants in this fashion.  I have always liked gardening but this has taken on a bit more depth than that.
