: how do i prune these - i have huge thick stalks - and when to prune?

Hi Lori,
You can prune the stems close to the base of the plant after they bloom and go to seed. Collect the seeds and, either scatter in the garden, or wait until next spring to plant them. Most foxgloves are biennial and will die after setting seed their second year.
