: I want to start growing blackberries. How deep should they be planted? How deep do the roots usually grow into the ground? What type of area should they be planted in - full sun or part sun? I'm just starting out on the gardening trail so any help you can give me would be appreciated.

: Thanks

Hi Dorothy,
Welcome to the wonderful world of gardening!! The first thing is to pay attention to the soil. Healthy soil will give you healthier plants. The best thing you can do for your soil and your plants, is to add compost. A 2" to 3" layer mixed in would be helpful.

For your blackberries, take a look at this site.

You might also want to contact your local extension service as blackberries won't grow well in some places or only certain varieties will. You'll also need to know your hardiness zone.

Hope this helps,
