Shasta Daisies which are too tall

: I have a few clumps of shasta daisies (superbum, Becky) which are just too tall and obstruct my peonies in the back.  Would it be wise to cut them back early in the season before they set bud next spring?  I certainly don't want to relocate the peonies and would rather not have to relocate the shastas. Ideas?
