Red Hot Pokers Not Blooming!!

My new kniphofia that I planted early this spring are growing but I don't have one bud! They get nice afternoon sun and plenty of everything (water, fertilizer) but not a bud in sight. What's the problem, do you think? I'm Zone 5. Thanks a bunch.
