Bleeding hearts

My bleeding hearts are four years old an have become a large(3-4feet wide) bush. Now that the blooms are gone the keaves are getting yellow. Can I cut the bush down to the ground without killing the plant? I would like to plant some mums in front. Will they grow together nicely and both come up next spring? Thanks, Eleanor
