: I would like to know if it is o.k. to dig up some yucas, hostas and day lillies and replant them somewhere else in my landscape. I want to replace them with some of those spiral shaped trees and need to purchase the trees before the nursery sells them all. It is now August 12 and I'm not sure if I have to wait until sometime in September to dig up and replant these flowers, but again, time is of the essence since the nursery is having a end of season sale and the trees probaly won't be available much longer.
: Thank you.

Hi Sharon,
You don't say where you live so I don't know what the temps are. If it's over 85* I would suggest you wait until a run of cloudy days or until the weather cools a bit before you dig up your plants. Don't forget to water them well a day or two before you dig.

You could go ahead and purchase your spiral trees now anyway and care for them in their pots until it's cool enough to dig. Keep them in semi shade and make sure they don't dry out.

Good luck,
