planting under silver maple tree

: I live in oklahoma which is in zone 6 and I have a flower bed under a silver maple tree and it is in partial shade, it gets some sun.  I have trouble keeping anything alive under this tree.  I know that the tree sucks up most of my moisture, so I guess i need some kind of plants for a dry shade gardening.  If anyone has a suggestion what I can grow and keep alive I sure would appreciate it.  Thank you for any suggestion .
