Winter Storage of Geraniums

I have planter boxes and pot of Geraniums that I want to bring inside for the winter,and put in my basement (its fairly cool and lots of light).I have already cut back the stems,but they are starting to grow yellow.Can anyone help with advice on what can be done.We live in a zone 5 area,Kingston,Ontario,Canada.
