Planting Bearded Iris (bare root) in pots for winter??

: I was delivered new bearded iris, bare root, to replace ones that were basically rotted when they first arrived. Any ideas now on how I should pot them up for the winter, and where to store them? It is too late to plant out in the yard with frozen ground and snow cover. I had hoped to have blooms in the spring,and don't believe this is now going to be possible. But, planting mixture for potting them up and any other advice for keeping them alive through the winter would be appreciated! thx..
