Tulips

Problem! I need to lift a couple hundred (or more) Tulip bulbs from a bed that will be disturbed by some alley contruction slated to begin May 4th in the Chicago area.

At this time I am sure they will be done blooming but not done storing energy for next year. How do I handle it so I can rebury them next fall?

Can I re-bury them in the garden and dig them back up after the greenery has died back or would that be a waste of time?
