Hi Paul,

The honeysuckle that you see growing wild is the invasive pest called Japanese honeysuckle or Hall's honeysuckle. Please don't propagate and plant any more of it. The birds love the berries and spread it to the wild. It covers everything and smothers out all other vegatation.

The best honeysuckles are the native Lonicera heckrottii - Gold flame honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens 'Blanche Sandman' and Lonicera sempervirens 'John Clayton'. Here's a picture of all three.

I grow 'Blanche' and 'John' and the hummers love them. They bloom on and off all summer. I'm in zone 7 in Maryland and mine have been blooming for 2 weeks now and are going strong. Blanche is my favorite for color.
