: I've had the same thing happen two years in a row!  My clematis shoots up, healthy and strong, and grows faster than anything I've ever seen.  But once it gets about a foot tall, the leaves start to shrivel and it begins to die.  I'm in Indiana and we've had a lot of rain lately.  I have it tied with stretchy garden tape to a trellis.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.  I don't want a bare trellis again this summer!
