need help identifying strange plant

: my mother gave me a plant and called it an airplane plant. I have done endless internet searches for airplane plant and all I come up with is a spider plant
: This plant looks similar to an african iris with no flower. My mom said it does flower but I have never seen it. It gives off baby plants similar to the spider plant only instead of a long sprout with several babies it gives one baby shooting out from near the top of one of the more mature sword shaped leaves
