Malus hybrida
( Chilko Flowering Crabapple )
| This is a semi-weeping, spreading deciduous tree. Leaves are dense, ovate, often lobed, purplish, dark green at maturity, up to 3 inches long. Red buds develop into rose-pink flowers in spring. Fruit are bright red, approximately the size of a cherry. Grows 15 to 25 feet tall and 10 to 20 feet wide. This tree does well in most soil, but will be more attractive if fed peat and compost. Not disease resistant. |
| Important Info : Be careful not to prune too heavily or apply too much fertilizer since these can increase susceptibility to fire blight. |
