| This low, dense shrub has a horizontal habit and is a natural on the bank, slope, or espaliered against a wall. Leaves are dark green and glossy, turning a burgundy or purple color in fall. May to June flowers are small and pink. 'Saxatilis' is a more compact grower with smaller leaves than the other horizontalis, and has a distinct "fish bone" branching pattern. This sparce fruit growing cultivar was introduced by Hesse of Germany in 1950. |
