| L. speciosum is a vigorous, stem-rooting true species lily with erect purple-flushed, green stems. Leaves are scattered and almost ovate. Bears racemes of up to 12, large, fragrant, pendent or outward-facing, pale pink or white flowers, flushed deeper pink in the centers. Needs moist, acidic soil, and partial shade. E.China, Japan, Taiwan.
Deadhead spent flowers, but wait until stems and leaves turn yellow to cut back to within a few inches of the ground. Spring and fall are the best time to transplant, even though they can be transplanted any time. Provide ample moisture while flowering, but can take periods of drought otherwise. |
