| This is a thicket forming, dense, deciduous shrub sometimes grown as a small tree, more commonly as a hedge. Glossy, dark green leaves are ovate and up to 2 1/2 inches long. Yellowish-green, unisexual flowers are borne in axillary clusters. In the fall, bears round, red fruit to a 1/4 of an inch across, foliage becomes yellow. Best adapted to cold, dry areas with poor soil. |
