| Outstanding, evergreen shrub with dense, upright branches clothed in sharply pointed, bright green needles. Depending on variety, works well as a ground cover, hedge, screen or windbreak. Requires little maintenance. Very tough plant. 'Pfitzeriana' is the probably the most widely planted juniper. Wide-spreading, variable form grows 5 feet high and 10 feet wide, but can exceed this. Foliage is scale-like and awl-shaped, bright green. Main branches emerge at 45-degree angles, and young shoots show a slight pendulous tendency. Often becomes ragged with age. Does well in both the north (to as cold as -25F) and in the deep south. |
