| Fast growing, narrow, columnar tree with nearly spineless shoots. Grows to 50 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Deep green leaves are pinnate to 12 inches long, with up to 23 lance-shaped leaflets. Sparse, white, fragrant flowers, to 3/4 inches long are held in pendant racemes, to 8 inches long. Followed by brown, smooth seed pods, 4 inches long.
With judicious pruning while young, this very common and too often neglected tree, can be quite nice. Though a popular street tree, it really should not be used close to power lines where mature, hard wood has to be pruned. |
