| 'Crispa' is a fast growing, broadly columnar tree with spiny shoots. Grows to 80 feet tall and 50 feet wide. Dark green, narrow leaves are pinnate, 8-10 inches long, with up to 23 lance-shaped leaflets. White, fragrant flowers, to 3/4 inches long are held in pendant racemes, to 8 inches long. Followed by brown, smooth seed pods, 4 inches long.
With judicous pruning while young, this very common and too often neglected tree, can be quite nice. Though a popular street tree, it really should not be used close to power lines where mature, hard wood has to be pruned. |
